On the obverse of the commemorative 200-crown coin, the state shield of the Slovak republic is located in the middle of the field. The name of the state SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA, is placed on two lines so that the first two and the last two letter of the name of the state are elongated to form a square around the state symbol. The date of issue 1995, is located at the lower edge of the coin below the name of the state.

On the reverse of the 200-crown coin, a portrait of Pavol Jozef Šafárik appears. Left of the portrait from bottom to top, in two perpendicular lines, are placed the dates of his birth and death, 1795 - 1861, and his Christian name : Pavol. Above the portrait, at the upper edge of the coin, is written his second Christian name : Jozef. The surname, Šafárik, is written from top to bottom in a perpendicular line to the right of the portrait. The name and surname are in a right angle, in broken lines, and frame the portrait. The nominal value of the coin, 200 Sk, is beneath the portrait at the lower edge of the field.
